Rose and the Submarine Tunnels

Rose and the Submarine Tunnels

Travel time from Tivat: about 1 hour. Recommended package: 6 hours.

Rose stands on the tip of Luštica at the entrance to the bay. It was once an ordinary fishing village, while a Yugoslav naval base was established nearby in the twentieth century.

The Tunnels

Passages were cut into the coastal cliffs so submarines could be concealed from aerial observation. The ceilings are high and the entrances wide, allowing the boat to approach closely. We do not enter for safety reasons, but their scale is clear from the water.

The Village

Rose has barely changed: stone houses beside the water, several taverns and a quay. It remains quiet even in August because the road reaches it only after circling the entire peninsula.

The route combines easily with Mamula and the Blue Cave, both of which are nearby.
