Perast
Travel time from Tivat: about 40 minutes. Recommended package: 4 hours.
Perast stands at the narrowest point of the bay, where the shores almost meet. The town has just one street along the water, yet it contains sixteen churches and seventeen palaces.
Why Perast Looks This Way
During the Venetian era, Perast maintained its own fleet and a maritime school attended by captains from across the Adriatic. The town was granted the right to guard the Venetian standard, and its captains served in the Russian fleet under Peter the Great. This explains the palaces, lavish beyond what you might expect in a town of this size.
What to See
- the bell tower of St Nicholas' Church, the tallest in the bay;
- the waterfront with the Bujović and Zmajević palaces;
- the two islands opposite the town;
- waterside cafés serving fresh seafood.
We moor at the town quay and allow an hour of free time, enough for a walk along the waterfront and a coffee.
